Throughout its existence, the Beta Upsilon Chapter has been dedicated to upholding the principles of Alpha Phi Alpha, manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind.
Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men, was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University. Three decades later, on April 15, 1936, twelve young men chartered the Beta Upsilon Chapter at Alabama State University, the 63rd house of Alpha and the first Alpha chapter at ASU.
For more than 85 years, Beta Upsilon has stood for academic excellence, community service, and leadership development on the ASU campus, throughout the state of Alabama, and across the Southern Region. Three times named Alabama District Chapter of the Year. Three times named Southern Region Chapter of the Year. Hundreds of brothers initiated. One unbroken line of distinction.
